Pererenan and Seseh, Bali (2026): A Local Guide to Eat, Train and Swim

Pererenan and Seseh, Bali (2026): A Local Guide to Eat, Train and Swim

Updated 12 October 2026 | 9 min read | By Rissa Prima, Digital Marketing Manager, Cabo Bali

The short answer

Pererenan is Canggu with the volume turned down: the same coffee, restaurants and gyms, fewer scooters, and a black sand beach you can actually walk. Next door, Seseh is quieter again. Train at House of Kairos, our standout pick, or Surya Gym for a cheaper session. Eat at Shelter and Bokashi, get gelato at Ettore and coffee at ST. ALi. Book a massage at Pressure. Skip swimming at either beach and come for sunset instead.

Quick answer

  • Vibe: calmer, village feel, rice fields still in view, central Canggu a short ride away
  • Best gym and recovery: House of Kairos, Jl. Pantai Munggu (day pass IDR 700,000 ++)
  • Best value gym and fight training: Surya Gym, Jl. Raya Canggu (gym day pass listed at IDR 250,000)
  • Best dinner: Shelter (wood fired) and Bokashi (robatayaki)
  • Best massage: Pressure. Massage Spa, Jl. Sempol 27
  • Beaches: Pererenan and Seseh are for sunset and surf, not swimming

What is Pererenan like compared with Canggu?

Pererenan sits on the coast just north of central Canggu, with Seseh and then Munggu beyond it. Canggu proper is busier, louder and more social, with beach clubs, live music and the traffic that comes with them. Pererenan keeps more of a village feel, with rice fields between the villas and a smaller, slower crowd.

That does not mean it is sleepy. The main road down to the beach, Jl. Pantai Pererenan, is lined with some of the best cafés and restaurants on this coast, and the gyms here are as good as anything in Berawa. What you give up is nightlife on your doorstep. What you gain is dinner you can walk home from.

Seseh is the next village up the coast. It feels more traditional again: offerings at the shrines in the morning, frangipani along the lanes, and a beach that is usually close to empty. Most visitors base themselves in Pererenan and drift up to Seseh for the gym, the beach or sunset.

Where to get coffee and brunch

ST. ALi Bali | the serious coffee stop

The Bali outpost of the Melbourne roaster, at Jl. Pantai Pererenan 122. Come for proper third wave coffee and an Australian style brunch.

It suits early risers and anyone who cares more about the coffee than the décor. Listings show it open daily from 6am to 6pm. The honest caveat: it gets busy, you may share a table, and parking is tight, so walk or come by scooter.

Touche | the French brunch pick

A French inspired café in Pererenan with a calm, neutral room. A late 2025 review singles out the truffle omelette, the croissants and the coffee.

It is the better choice for a slow brunch rather than a quick flat white. Check current prices on the day, as menus here change often.

Where to eat in Pererenan

This is the real reason to stay in Pererenan. For the wider area, see our guide to the best restaurants in Canggu.

Shelter | the dinner to book first

A garden restaurant at Jl. Pantai Pererenan 133 cooking Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes over open fire, a wood fired oven and a charcoal grill. Plates are built for sharing.

It is our favourite dinner in the area and a perk venue for Cabo guests, with the details sent with your booking confirmation. Book ahead, especially at weekends.

Bokashi | the long lunch with a grill

At Jl. Pantai Pererenan 159, Bokashi combines a restaurant, cocktail bar and organic grocery, with garden and poolside seating. The terrace robatayaki bar grills Japanese style dishes with local ingredients.

Its booking listing shows lunch from 10am to 3:30pm, the robatayaki menu from 12pm to 10pm and dinner from 6pm to 10pm. Good for a long lunch that turns into an afternoon.

Ettore Gelato | the walk home treat

Italian gelato at Jl. Pantai Pererenan 88, open 11am to 11pm according to its listing. Cabo guests get a perk here too, sent with the booking confirmation.

Skip the dessert menu at dinner and walk here instead.

Where to train and recover

Pererenan and Seseh have quietly become one of the best training bases in Bali. For the full Canggu picture, see our best gyms in Canggu guide, and if you play racket sports, our best padel clubs in Canggu guide covers Jungle Padel, which has a Pererenan site.

House of Kairos | our standout pick

A members club on Jl. Pantai Munggu, on the Seseh side, that puts a performance gym, recovery suite, restaurant and co-working under one roof. The gym floors and rooftop gym run on Technogym equipment, the recovery side has a pool, dry sauna, steam room, hot tub and two ice baths, and there are two rooftop studios for classes.

It is open every day from 7am to 10pm. The day pass is IDR 700,000 ++ (plus 5% service and 10% tax) and covers all access entry and two classes that day, per houseofkairos.com/membership.

It suits anyone who wants to train, recover, eat and work in one place for the day. The caveat is price: for a quick lifting session it is more than you need, so treat it as a full day out.

Surya Gym | the value pick for lifting and fighting

On Jl. Raya Canggu in Pererenan, Surya Gym combines a full gym with a fight club for boxing, Muay Thai and K1, plus a recovery area, café and rooftop. Its Instagram lists opening hours of 6am to 10pm.

Its site, suryagymbali.com, lists a gym day pass at IDR 250,000 and a fight club day pass at IDR 400,000 at the time of writing, so check current prices before you go. The caveat: it sits on the main road, so the ride there at peak times is slower than the distance suggests.

Pressure. Massage Spa | the recovery massage

A massage spa at Jl. Sempol 27, Pererenan, booked through Fresha. Its listing shows treatments from IDR 220,000 for a shorter foot focused session, with longer full body treatments above that.

Book it the evening after a heavy session or a long surf. Book ahead on Fresha. For more options, see our best massage and spa in Canggu guide.

Pererenan or Seseh: which beach?

Pererenan Beach | sunset and the statue

Black volcanic sand at the end of Jl. Pantai Pererenan, marked by the Gajah Mina statue, with local stalls selling young coconuts. The rivermouth and reef breaks suit intermediate and experienced surfers. It is a far better sunset walk than a swim.

Seseh Beach | the empty one

A short ride further up the coast, Seseh is soft black sand that is usually close to empty. The waves are powerful and draw experienced surfers rather than beginners. Come for a quiet walk and a sunset without the crowd. For the rest of the coast, see our best beaches in Canggu guide.

Cabo tip: Plan your day around the traffic, not the map. Train at House of Kairos or Surya in the morning, walk to lunch on Jl. Pantai Pererenan, and save the beach for the last hour of light. Crossing into central Canggu between late afternoon and dinner is when the roads are slowest.
