The Best Gyms in Canggu (2026)

By Keanu Fischell, Co-Founder, Cabo Bali · Updated August 2026 · 7 min read · Our honest local take — our team trains in these rooms and our guests ask about them before they ask about the beach.

The short answer

Obsidian in Pererenan is the best-equipped gym in Bali — 100kg dumbbells, a full machine park, and an onsen and cold plunge included at IDR 2,750,000 a month. Bull Core is the value pick at IDR 1,000,000 a month and the right room if you actually lift. Avenue Fitness on Batu Bolong is the only one you can walk to, and its 10-visit pass is the smartest product in Canggu. Nirvana Life has the best coaching, Wanderlust the deepest functional kit, Reload the best recovery, and Level Up costs IDR 450,000 a month if you tolerate no aircon. The monthly spread across two kilometres is roughly ninefold. Two things nobody tells you: most premium gyms add 15% on top of the advertised price, and multi-day passes burn on calendar days whether you turn up or not.

Quick answer

  • Best equipped, full stop: Obsidian — Pererenan (dumbbells to 100kg, onsen included)
  • Best value if you lift: Bull Core — Jl. Raya Canggu (IDR 1,000,000/month, aircon)
  • Best location + smartest pass: Avenue Fitness — Batu Bolong (10 visits, valid 2 months)
  • Best coaching and classes: Nirvana Life — Berawa (100+ classes, calisthenics and mobility)
  • Deepest functional kit: Wanderlust — Padonan (platforms, 20 rowers, on-site physio)
  • Best recovery: Reload Sanctuary — Padang Linjong (sunset pass IDR 349,000)
  • Best premium all-rounder for couples: Elite Fit — Pererenan (duo rates)
  • Budget: Level Up — Berawa (IDR 450,000/month, open-air)
  • Owner angle: the gym question is now a booking question — see Canggu villa management

First: the gym that moved to Uluwatu and took its prices with it

The Wrong Gym no longer operates in Pererenan. The site at Jl. Pantai Pererenan trades as RITE Gym under new ownership, and the Wrong Gym brand has relocated to Pecatu, in Uluwatu. That matters because the brand's published price list — day pass around IDR 500,000, four weeks around IDR 3,200,000 — is now an Uluwatu price list, and several current guides still attach those numbers to a Pererenan address. If you read that combination anywhere, it is wrong twice over.

Two more renames: Nirvana Strength is now Nirvana Life — same Berawa address, repositioned and much more expensive, so old articles quoting a 200,000 day pass describe a price list that no longer exists. And Avenue Fitness has been renovated and rebranded, so reviews calling it tired predate the work. Canggu went from a couple of gyms a decade ago to more than fifteen, most opened in the last three years. Any Canggu gym list older than about nine months is unreliable.

Our take, gym by gym

Obsidian — the best-equipped gym in Bali

Jl. Raya Canggu, Pererenan. Six thousand square metres, properly air-conditioned, 06:00–22:00. Dumbbells to 100kg — the heaviest on the island — with Panatta, Gymleco and Technogym machines organised by muscle group. Pool, cold plunge, sauna and a Japanese onsen, all included rather than a separate tier. Around IDR 440,000 a day, IDR 2,750,000 a month. The verdict: if you genuinely lift, nothing else here is close, and included recovery makes the monthly better value than it looks. The catch is atmosphere — house music is piped into the recovery area, so the onsen is useless for switching off, and the floor carries a heavy content-creation presence. Far Pererenan end, a real ride from Berawa.

Bull Gym Core — the value pick, and the one for lifters

Jl. Raya Canggu, on the Dalung edge. Air-conditioned, calibrated dumbbells, professional racks, plate-loaded machines, coaching from competitive powerlifters. Day IDR 250,000 · week IDR 750,000 · month IDR 1,000,000. The verdict: a third of Obsidian's monthly and a quarter of Body Factory's, with more usable iron than either at the price. For a three-month stayer who trains seriously this is the answer, and it is not close. Plain — no pool, no spa, bring your own water — and the furthest inland of the mainstream options. Their oceanfront Bull Beach site is a lovely novelty at IDR 300,000 a day, but IDR 2,800,000 a month for an entirely open-air gym is not a sensible membership.

Avenue Fitness — the only one you can walk to

Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong. Three floors, aircon on the lower two, sauna, steam, jacuzzi, ice bath, plus pool access next door. Day IDR 300,000 · month IDR 1,800,000 · three months IDR 4,000,000 — and unusually, those prices already include tax and service, which almost nobody else here does. The verdict: the 10-visit pass at IDR 1,750,000, valid two months, is the smartest gym product in Canggu — nearly every other multi-day pass burns on calendar days whether you show up or not. Equipment is competent rather than exceptional for the money. The real cost is the address: Batu Bolong is the most congested strip in Canggu, and the discounted 5PM Club membership funnels you straight into the worst of it.

Nirvana Life — the best coaching in Canggu

Jl. Pantai Berawa. Open until 23:00, the latest here. Over a hundred classes a week and a real specialism in calisthenics, gymnastics and mobility, plus the strongest recovery suite in Berawa: a 4°C ice bath, a second at 10°C, dry and infrared saunas, steam room and a 25m pool. The verdict: the most technically instructive room in Canggu if you want to learn a skill rather than just move weight. Two warnings. The day pass at IDR 660,000 plus tax and service is close to IDR 760,000 all-in, the most expensive casual entry in the area and about a week of Bull Core. And the tier names mislead — the entry tier has no gym access at all, the middle tier charges per class on top, and only the top tier includes the classes you came for.

Wanderlust Fitness Village — the deepest functional kit

Jl. Raya Padonan. Two thousand square metres and an inventory nothing else matches: around 100 barbells, 125 dumbbells, 115 kettlebells, 20 rowers, 22 air bikes, 16 ski ergs, Olympic platforms. Fifty-plus weekly classes, a 25m pool, ice baths, sauna and on-site physiotherapy people consistently rate. The verdict: the only gym in Canggu where a platform is guaranteed free at 18:00, and the open-gym-only monthly is the value line if you skip the classes. The downsides are documented and real — beach-club-volume music throughout, classes of thirty-plus, and inconsistent service and maintenance. The operator's public price list is dated, so confirm before committing. One separate warning: the accommodation package they sell draws serious complaints — take the gym, not the package.

Reload Sanctuary — the best recovery, and the smartest cheap pass

Jl. Canggu Padang Linjong — central, reachable from Berawa, Pererenan and Echo. Full strength floor, a HYROX zone, a rooftop area, and the most complete recovery set in Canggu: ice bath, cold plunge, sauna, steam, recovery pool and a 39°C jacuzzi. Classes are included even on a day pass. The verdict: the sunset pass at IDR 349,000, valid from 17:00, is genuinely well priced against a IDR 549,000 full day — and it is the window most people actually train anyway. Two honest gaps: no monthly rate is published at all, so you cannot do the maths before you arrive, and the rooftop is unshaded and unusable in the middle of the day. Friday DJ sets make it a venue as much as a gym.

Elite Fit — the premium all-rounder, and the one for couples

Pererenan. Air-conditioned floor with dumbbells to 70kg — heavier than most premium clubs here — plus racks, Smith machines and an outdoor functional zone. Recovery is pool, jacuzzi, a 5°C ice bath, dry sauna and Turkish steam. Perform runs IDR 350,000 a day, IDR 2,200,000 for four weeks, IDR 5,500,000 for twelve. The verdict: the twelve-week Perform rate is one of the better premium deals here and the duo rates are a real saving for couples. The trap is the two-product split — Perform excludes the pool and sauna, Recharge excludes the weights, and the all-in tier lands within IDR 50,000 of Obsidian, which gives you more iron with recovery included.

Level Up — the budget arbitrage

Jl. Pantai Berawa. Free weights and machines, reported new and well kept, 06:00–22:00. Day IDR 60,000 · month IDR 450,000. The verdict: one-sixth of Obsidian. Train at 06:30 or after dark and the arbitrage is enormous. No aircon, no recovery, no classes, no pool — and Berawa at midday is not a place to train in an open-air room. The top dumbbell weight is not published, which is exactly the number a lifter needs. Ask before buying a month.

Also worth knowing. Body Factory on Jl. Nelayan is the original Canggu status gym — 50-plus classes, pool, two ice baths — but dumbbells stop around 50kg and the all-in lands near IDR 2.7–3.4 million a month, so you are paying for the scene, not the iron. Fortitude (CrossFit Canggu) in Berawa has the cheapest credible barbell access on an open-gym drop-in, but it is a rooftop with no recovery that closes at 19:00 weekdays and 13:00 weekends. Bali MMA in Padonan is the serious fight gym — cage, ring, air-conditioned grappling room, full weight room — and the only one here advertising its own parking.

What a Canggu gym actually costs (2026)

Indicative, August 2026 — confirm directly, this market moves faster than any other in Bali.

BandDrop-in (IDR)Month (IDR)Who
Budget, open-air, no recovery60,000-100,000450,000-700,000Level Up
Mid-market, aircon, some recovery200,000-300,0001,000,000-2,200,000Bull Core, Avenue, Wanderlust
Premium, full recovery + classes350,000-660,0002,100,000-3,400,000Obsidian, Elite Fit, Nirvana Life, Body Factory

The spread from cheapest to dearest monthly inside a two-kilometre radius is roughly nine times — IDR 450,000 against IDR 4,000,000 — for rooms that all contain barbells.

Three pricing traps

  1. The advertised price is often not the price. Body Factory and Nirvana Life add 10% tax and 5% service to every figure they publish — a 350,000 day pass is 402,500 at the counter, a 660,000 one closer to 760,000. Avenue Fitness is the honourable exception. Always ask whether a quote is plus plus.
  2. Multi-day passes are consecutive calendar days, not visits. A seven-day pass burns whether you train or not. The exceptions are Avenue’s 10-visit pass (valid two months) and Reload’s day pass (valid fourteen).
  3. The monthly beats day passes faster than you think. At Bull Core a month costs four day passes; at Avenue and Obsidian, about six. Stay more than five days and train most of them and the month is cheaper — and nobody at the desk will say so.
Pro tip — book by climate, not by kit. Bull Beach, Level Up, Fortitude's rooftop, Reload's rooftop and Bali MMA's striking area are all open-air: pleasant at 06:30 and punishing at 13:00. The crush everywhere is roughly 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–20:00, the evening peak sharpened by the surf crowd coming inland. If midday is your only window you need an air-conditioned floor — Obsidian, Bull Core or Elite Fit — and the decision is made for you.

The Cabo angle

If you own a villa in Canggu, the gym question is now a booking question. Long-stay guests here filter on it the way they used to filter on a pool, and the honest answer is that the villa gym you were thinking of building cannot compete with a IDR 450,000 monthly membership five minutes away. What does move the needle is management: knowing which of the rooms above suits the guest in front of you, having the ride sorted, and warning them that a Batu Bolong gym at 17:30 costs fifteen minutes each way. That is what turns a good review into a rebooking. See how we manage villas in Canggu or what it costs.

Key takeaways

  • The Wrong Gym left Pererenan — that site is now RITE Gym, and the brand's published prices are Uluwatu prices.
  • Obsidian is the best-equipped gym in Bali; Bull Core at IDR 1,000,000 a month is the value answer for lifters.
  • Avenue's 10-visit pass, valid two months, is the only Canggu pass that does not burn on calendar days.
  • Premium gyms add 15% tax and service on top of the advertised price. Avenue does not. And Nirvana Life's cheaper tiers exclude the gym or the classes — read the tier, not the brochure.
  • Reload's IDR 349,000 sunset pass is the best-value recovery access in Canggu.
  • Stay over five days and train most of them and a monthly beats day passes almost everywhere.
  • For owners: a villa gym cannot beat a IDR 450,000 membership. Managing the answer is what earns the rebooking.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best gym in Canggu?

Obsidian in Pererenan if you want the best equipment — dumbbells to 100kg and an onsen and cold plunge included. Bull Core if you want the same seriousness for a third of the price. Avenue Fitness in Batu Bolong if you want to walk rather than ride.

How much does a gym cost in Canggu?

Day passes run IDR 60,000 to 660,000, monthly memberships IDR 450,000 to about IDR 4,000,000 — a ninefold spread inside two kilometres. Mid-market with aircon and some recovery is IDR 1,000,000 to 2,200,000 a month. Most premium gyms add 10% tax and 5% service on top.

Is The Wrong Gym still in Canggu?

No. The Pererenan site now operates as RITE Gym under new ownership, and the Wrong Gym brand has moved to Pecatu in Uluwatu. Any guide quoting Wrong Gym prices at a Pererenan address is out of date on both counts.

Which Canggu gyms have air conditioning?

Obsidian, Bull Core, Elite Fit, Body Factory and the lower floors of Avenue Fitness. Level Up, Bull Beach, Fortitude's rooftop and Bali MMA's striking area are open-air — fine at 06:30, brutal at midday.

Canggu's gym market turns over faster than anywhere else in Bali — two of the best-known names have already moved or rebranded. We keep this updated. Written August 2026.
