Couple Edition

Disclaimer: 2 days is never enough.

We say it to every guest and we mean it every time. Two days in Uluwatu will give you a taste — but you’ll leave already planning when to come back.

Uluwatu is the laidback, surf capital of Bali. Dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden white-sand beaches, world-class waves, and sunsets that genuinely stop conversations. It’s the Bali you actually pictured when you booked the flight — and it delivers.

We’ve been managing villas across Uluwatu since 2023 and have sent hundreds of couples through this exact itinerary. These aren’t recommendations from a Google search — they’re the places we go ourselves, week after week.

Here’s how to make every moment count.

The short answer

Two days in Uluwatu is enough to hit the essentials — a proper breakfast, a hidden beach, a long lunch, sunset cocktails and a great dinner each day — as long as you don’t try to do everything. This couple’s itinerary, built by people who live here and manage villas on the Bukit, runs Day 1 around Artisan, a beach like Thomas or Melasti, a couples massage and sunset at Teja, and Day 2 around training, recovery and a Bingin sunset at Mana. Budget roughly IDR 2M–3.5M per person for two days of food, drinks and a massage (excluding stays and transport), and base yourself a short scooter ride from the beach and surf you came for.

Quick answer

  • Day 1: Artisan breakfast → Thomas / Melasti beach → Milk & Madu lunch → couples massage → pool → sunset cocktails at Teja → dinner at Yuki
  • Day 2: morning training → Analog coffee → recovery & pool → Banana Lounge → Mana sunset → local stores → dinner at Kala, Ulu Fish Market or Gooseberry
  • Budget: ~IDR 2M–3.5M per person for two days (food, drinks, one massage), excluding accommodation and transport
  • Getting around: a scooter is easiest; a private driver runs ~IDR 500K/day, and the Bukit is spread out so plan your route
  • Where to stay: Bingin and Uluwatu for cliffs and surf — base yourself close to the beach whose mood you want

DAY 1

Breakfast at Artisan

Start your morning at Artisan — easily one of the best breakfasts on the Bukit. Beautiful open kitchen, wood-fired oven, freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat every morning. The Piggy Pancakes (triple-stack fluffy pancakes with crispy bacon, brown butter, and maple syrup) are ridiculous. Coffee is serious here too — they serve Blacklist, one of the top roasters on the island. With three locations across Uluwatu (Labuansait, Ungasan, and Bingin), there’s always one close to wherever you’re staying.

Insider tip: The Labuansait location has the best interior and AC upstairs if it’s a hot morning. Get there before 9AM on weekends or you’ll wait.

Beach Time

You’re in the surf capital — get to the water.

Thomas Beach
— we send most of our couples here first. The waves are friendly enough to swim in, the sand is gorgeous, and it’s quieter than the Instagram beaches. Rent a sun lounger, order a cold coconut from one of the beachside warungs, and settle in. There’s something about Thomas Beach that just lets you exhale.

Dreamland Beach
— if you want bigger waves, especially in the summer months (May–October) when the swell picks up. Great for a surf session or just watching from the sand.

Melasti Beach
— one of the most photogenic beaches in all of Bali. The dramatic cliff entrance alone is worth the drive. Turquoise water, white sand, and the kind of backdrop that makes your phone camera look professional. Arrive before 10AM and it still feels special.

Nyang Nyang Beach
— the secret one, and honestly the beach that makes you feel like you’re on another planet. Completely removed from technology — no signal, no noise, just white sand stretching for miles and turquoise water with barely another soul in sight. Bonfires on the beach at sunset are common here. The catch? You need to be confident on a scooter to get there, and the path down is steep. Worth it if you’re up for it.

Insider tip:
Check the Surfline app before heading to any beach. Tide times make a real difference — some beaches disappear at high tide (e.g. Green Bowl, Suluban), and the swimming conditions change completely.

Lunch at Milk & Madu

Walk up from the beach and head to Milk & Madu. It looks like a cafe but the food goes way beyond — the lava stone pizzas are famous (2-for-1 on Tuesdays and Sundays), the burgers are solid, and the portion sizes actually fill you up. A short walk from Padang Padang beach, so you can combine the two.

Expect to spend: IDR 150,000–250,000 per person for lunch with drinks.

Exclusive discounts if you stay here.

Wind Down: Couples Massage

This is where the afternoon slows right down.

Jomo Spa — “The Joy of Missing Out.” A natural spa in Bingin known for lymphatic massages, sculpting treatments, and beautiful facials. The aesthetic is minimal and calming — exactly what you want after a morning in the sun.

Or order a home massage with Qila (your host) — they come straight to the villa. No transport, no effort. Just book, lie down, and let them work their magic. We’ve had couples tell us this was the highlight of their entire trip.

Home massage bookings — book at least a day ahead.

Pool Time

Head back to the villa and grab some sun by the pool. This is your afternoon — a book, a cold coconut, doing absolutely nothing together. Uluwatu afternoons are made for this.

Sunset Cocktails at Teja

This is the one. We’ve sent over 50 couples to Teja and the feedback is always the same: book the outside table for sunset. Teja opened in 2024 and has quickly become the sunset spot in Uluwatu. Perched on the cliffs with panoramic ocean views, it’s a multi-level space built with raw stone, warm lighting, and an open fire pit. The cocktails are creative — try the Garibaldi — and the small plates are elite (BBQ beef skewers, heirloom tomatoes, fried potatoes). The dry-aged fish and meat from the open fire grill are next level.

Arrive around 5:30PM to secure an outside seat. Book ahead — this place fills up fast.

Expect to spend: IDR 500,000–800,000 per person for cocktails and small plates.

Dinner at Yuki

From sunset straight into one of the best dinners in Uluwatu. Yuki is a moody, design-driven Japanese izakaya — dark interiors, smoky skewers, raw bites, and progressive cocktails. The Wagyu sando is a must. The torched salmon maki is another level. And the cocktails match the food — the Off to Tokyo comes with a subtle wasabi hit and furikake rim.

Expect to spend: IDR 400,000–700,000 per person for dinner with cocktails.

Later

  • Tabu — if there’s one place you must try, even just to say you’ve been, it’s Tabu
  • Il Salotto — the best Negroni in Bali. Thursday–Saturday parties go late
  • Notte — a speakeasy-style nightcap spot. Try The Gentlemen’s Choice

What does 48 hours in Uluwatu cost?

Here's a realistic per-person guide to the food, drinks and a massage across two days. It excludes your villa, transport and shopping, and assumes mid-range choices — you can spend less at warungs or considerably more at the cliffside sunset spots. Figures are approximate and move with the menu and season.

MomentWhere (example)Approx. cost per person
BreakfastArtisanIDR 90K–150K
LunchMilk & MaduIDR 150K–250K
Couples massageJomo Spa or in-villafrom ~IDR 250K
Sunset cocktailsTejaIDR 500K–800K
Dinner, Day 1YukiIDR 400K–700K
CoffeeAnalogIDR 60K–100K
Dinner, Day 2Kala, Ulu Fish Market or GooseberryIDR 250K–600K

Add it up and most couples spend around IDR 2M–3.5M per person over two days — very roughly £100–£175 or $125–$220. Uluwatu's cliffside sunset spots push the top end higher than Canggu. Accommodation and transport sit on top of that.

Key takeaways

  • Two days covers Uluwatu's highlights, but the Bukit rewards slowing down — don't try to do it all.
  • Day 1 is beach, lunch, a couples massage, sunset cocktails at Teja and dinner at Yuki; Day 2 is training, recovery, a Bingin sunset and a relaxed dinner.
  • Budget roughly IDR 2M–3.5M per person for two days of food, drinks and a massage, excluding stays and transport.
  • Uluwatu's beaches range from swimmable (Thomas) to dramatic and photogenic (Melasti, Nyang Nyang) — check tides on Surfline before you go.
  • You need scooter confidence to reach the hidden beaches; hire a private driver (~IDR 500K/day) if you're unsure.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need in Uluwatu?

Two days is enough to enjoy the essentials — a beach or two, a couple of great meals, a couples massage and a cliffside sunset. But Uluwatu is spread out and rewards a slower pace, so if you can, three to four days lets you reach the hidden beaches and actually relax between the highlights.

How much does 48 hours in Uluwatu cost?

As a rough guide, budget around IDR 2M–3.5M per person for two days of meals, drinks and one massage, excluding accommodation and transport. You can spend less by eating at warungs, or considerably more at the cliffside sunset spots like Teja.

What's the best area to stay in Uluwatu for a couple?

It depends on the mood you want. Bingin is laid-back and walkable to surf and beach clubs; Uluwatu and Pecatu put you near the cliffs and the bigger sunset venues. Base yourself a short scooter ride from the beach whose vibe matches your trip.

Which Uluwatu beaches can you swim at?

Thomas Beach is the friendliest for a swim and where we send most couples first. Many of the others — like Melasti, Nyang Nyang and the surf breaks — are more about the scenery, the waves and photos. Always check tides on the Surfline app, as some beaches disappear at high tide.

What's the best time of year to visit Uluwatu?

The dry season, roughly May to October, has the best weather and the best surf as the swell picks up. The shoulder months are the sweet spot — fewer crowds with much the same vibe — while the wet season brings fewer tourists and dramatic sunsets.

How do you get around Uluwatu?

A scooter is easiest and lets you reach the hidden beaches, but only if you're confident riding — the lanes and beach paths can be steep. If not, a private driver runs around IDR 500,000 a day. The Bukit is spread out, so plan your route and carry cash.
