Miel in Batu Bolong is the closest Canggu gets to a library that sells coffee, and the best single room to actually get work done. NOAH in Pererenan is the cheapest good option and has a plug at every table. Amolas on Kayu Tulang is the quiet secret with proper aircon and a pool. Hungry Bird is the pick if you care about the coffee and want silence, but it closes at 5pm. Sari Kitchen is unbeatable value two minutes from the beach and has no aircon at all. Crate is a cheap early breakfast and one hour of email — not a workday. And nobody in Canggu bans laptops, but four other rules exist and nobody tells you about them at the door.

Our take, café by café
Miel Specialty Coffee — the one that is basically an office
Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong. Air-conditioned, glass-fronted, plant-filled, sockets everywhere, and so quiet that regulars describe it as perfect for working and useless for hanging out. Measured around 49 Mbps. The verdict: the best room in Canggu for four uninterrupted hours. Three honest caveats — it closes at 7pm, which kills it on European or US hours; the chairs are handsome and not comfortable past hour four; and several people report call audio dropping when it fills. Priced above its neighbours. Coffee from IDR 32,000.
NOAH — the best value, and a plug at every table
Jl. Pantai Pererenan. Free coworking with any purchase, a small air-conditioned nook downstairs, couches upstairs, power at every table, and open until 10pm. Coffee from IDR 15,000, meals from about IDR 50,000, half-price bakery after 3pm. The verdict: the least glamorous and most functional café on this list, and the one locals rate above the Instagram-famous ones. The AC nook is genuinely tiny — arrive before 10am or you are working in the heat. Ten minutes from central Canggu.
Amolas — the quiet secret
Jl. Raya Kayutulang. Proper aircon indoors, three seating areas, spacious tables, comfortable chairs, plugs at most of them including in the garden, and a pool. Coffee around IDR 25,000-30,000. The verdict: the one place on this list that is almost never crowded, which is the entire pitch and reason enough to ride there. The menu is limited — sandwiches, not a full kitchen — and being off the main strip means you commit to the trip before you know if there is a seat. The garden is lovely and unworkable after 10am.
Hungry Bird Coffee Roaster — best coffee, best silence
Jl. Raya Semat. A serious roaster with a full-aircon upstairs work floor, big tables, free table water, and 37 Mbps down measured. Most of the menu sits between IDR 30,000 and 50,000 — cheap for Canggu. Reliably described as quieter than anywhere else nearby, so calls are actually possible. The verdict: the thinking person's pick, undone by one detail — it closes at 5pm. The upstairs work space is also small, so a late arrival means no seat, and the wifi degrades noticeably as the room fills. Not every table has a socket; choose your seat for the plug, not the view.
Sari Kitchen & Community — best value near the beach
Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, two minutes from the sand. Three floors of nooks and communal tables, with level two built for laptops. Brunch sets from IDR 50,000 including a free coffee, tea or juice — the best value in this guide. Open until 10pm. The verdict: brilliant early and brilliant late, unusable in between. It is fans-only and semi-open, so from about 11am to 3pm it is genuinely uncomfortable, and the layout is confusing enough that you can commit to a bad seat before you find the good floor. Several sockets are hidden — walk all three floors before you sit. Not a place for calls.
nüde — the Berawa brunch room with a quiet box
Jl. Pantai Berawa. Mostly open-air with one small air-conditioned room that is the only comfortable option between 11am and 3pm. Around 50 Mbps, stable for a few hours. Cappuccino about IDR 35,000, brunch IDR 70,000-110,000. The verdict: two hours of email, not a base. Sockets are genuinely unreliable here — arrive fully charged — and you are competing for tables with a destination brunch crowd from 10am. Calls only in the quiet room, and only if it is free.
ZIN Café — the one that is open until midnight
Jl. Nelayan. Open-air bamboo over several levels from 06:30 to midnight, with one air-conditioned focus room and a purpose-built coworking hall at the back. The verdict: the answer if you work European or US hours, because almost nothing else in Canggu is open past 10pm. Two things to know before you sit down — the coworking hall carries a minimum spend of IDR 200,000, which is a different product from the café; and by mid-morning you will not get a good seat. Wifi evidence conflicts badly: one independent test recorded 13 Mbps against a marketing claim many times that. Table heights vary enough that some seats are unworkable with a laptop stand.
Crate Cafe — one hour, then leave
Jl. Canggu Padang Linjong. The cheap, loud, open-air Canggu institution: enormous portions for roughly IDR 45,000-80,000 and a queue by 9am. The verdict: we are including it to tell you not to work here. No rule bans laptops, but the wifi is the weakest on this list, the sockets are few and wall-hugging, and past 9am the room turns hostile to anyone still typing. Come before 9am for a cheap breakfast and an hour of email, then go somewhere with a plug.
The four ways Canggu says no without saying no
No café in Canggu, Berawa, Batu Bolong, Pererenan or Echo Beach operates a blanket laptop ban. The bans that exist in Melbourne, London and Brooklyn have not arrived here, because nomad spend is the business model. Four softer mechanisms have arrived instead, and none of them is explained at the door:
- Zoning. Laptops are welcome, but only upstairs or out the back. ZIN's front section is for socialising; Sari Kitchen's work floor is level two; Hungry Bird's is upstairs; Alchemy's laptop floor is the top one; The Daun steers laptops off the ground floor entirely.
- A wifi timer. BWork's café gives you 90 minutes of wifi with a food order. After that you are buying a day pass at around IDR 280,000. It is the closest thing to a hard rule in Canggu and almost no guide mentions it.
- Minimum spends that work as a clock. ZIN's coworking hall is IDR 200,000. Tribal asks non-guests for around IDR 100,000 after two to three hours. Café-attached coworking areas across the area sit at IDR 75,000-100,000.
- Social pressure, which is stronger than any sign. Crate has no policy and a two-to-three-hour practical ceiling. You will feel it before anyone says it.
Pro tip — the unwritten rent. Re-order every couple of hours if you are staying. A second coffee or a lunch is what keeps Canggu free of the laptop bans that have taken over café culture elsewhere, and it is why the norm still holds. Guides that teach you to squat on one IDR 25,000 coffee for six hours are actively creating the ban that does not exist yet.

Three cafés still on every list that have closed
Betelnut Cafe in Batu Bolong is closed. Cinta Cafe in Berawa is closed. Both still appear in 2026 round-ups with full wifi write-ups. The Daun's dedicated coworking room has also closed, although the café itself trades on. If a guide recommends any of these as a place to work, it has not been near Canggu recently.

The guests who book longest here are the ones who work, and they leave when the villa cannot hold a call — weak wifi at the far bedroom, one socket by the bed, an outdoor table in full sun by 11am. No. We found no blanket laptop ban or advertised laptop-free hours anywhere in Canggu, Berawa, Batu Bolong or Pererenan. What exists instead is zoning (laptops upstairs only), wifi timers, minimum spends and social pressure.
What time should I arrive to get a seat?
Before 9am. The rush is 10am to 1pm almost everywhere — ZIN peaks 10am to noon, Miel 11am to 1pm, Crate from 9am. The 7-9am window gets you an empty room, the full share of the wifi and the coolest air of the day.
Is the wifi in Canggu cafés good enough for video calls?
Sometimes, and it depends on the hour rather than the café. Measured speeds range from under 10 Mbps to over 250 Mbps, and most places degrade sharply once they fill. Test on arrival, carry a local eSIM as a hotspot backup, and take important calls from a coworking booth instead.
